National Day of Prayer

Today is National Day of Prayer

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.
- Psalm 33:12

You may be wondering, what is the National Day of Prayer? Well...

"The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families..."

Our country was founded under the beliefs of "One Nation Under God
And today, I'm afraid many people have forgotten that.

"Our founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions. It stands as a call to us to humbly come before God, seeking His guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people. The unanimous passage of the bill establishing the National Day of Prayer as an annual event, signifies that prayer is as important to our nation today as it was in the beginning."

“It is the duty of nations as well as men, to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God.” -Abraham Lincoln

Today the need for prayer is greater than ever.

Take the time today to pray for our country. Pray that the Lord will bless our leaders with wisdom, discernment and protection. While you're praying for the leaders of our nation, pray for the men and women who risk their lives every day so that we can have the freedom to pray.

Heavenly Father,

Every good gift and perfect gift comes from You.
You are a faithful God and Your mercy endures forever. You have promised to bless the nation that trusts in You.
Our currency proclaims “In God We Trust,” but in our culture we are far from You.
In the words of the prophet Daniel,
“We have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments.”
We come before You once more, seeking Your forgiveness and mercy.
You, O God, are our only hope… Hear our prayer and, for Your honor’s
sake, shine Your face upon this nation.
Give our leaders the desire to seek Your wisdom and the courage to follow Your guidance… And watch over the men and women of our armed
forces as they sacrifice for the cause of freedom.
We give You thanks for all You have done for us, and we earnestly pray that You will help us become, once again, a nation whose God is the Lord.

In the name of Your Son, and our Savior, we pray this prayer.
Amen
