How I Make that Money Honey

Ahhh Monday, we meet again.

Typically, I would update you on our weekend, but our weekend was extremely boring. So, I'm linking up today with Lindsey for the "How I Make that Money Honey" link up!

This is such a fun idea for a link up. Being the nosy person that I am, I find it fascinating to read about what other bloggers do for their "real jobs."

First things first...

My journey to the "real world" began at Texas A&M Universitythe first public institution of higher education in the state of Texas. As of 2011, Texas A&M is the largest university in the Texas with approximately 52,000 students.

I graduated from Texas A&M University in May of 2008.
OK.. That's a lie. I actually graduated on May 15, 2009. I was class of 2008, but I took my victory lap. But I claim 2008 as my date of graduation.

After changing my major five times, (yes, FIVE timeshence the victory lap), I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communication & Journalism and a minor in business.

I absolutely love being an Aggie!

My last semester at A&M, I was one of those students who was determined to have a job already lined up when graduation day rolled around. And I did.

The summer after I graduated, I moved to Euless, Texas and started working for a financial service center in Irving. I was a marketing rep for the company. I hated this job, but it was a steady income. I was with the company for just under a year when I received a phone call one night telling me that they were letting me go effective immediately.
No explanation as to why.

This was in June of 2010. I was stressed and overwhelmed with wedding planning. I tried desperately to find another job, but I had no luck. I finally gave up until after our wedding.

Fast forward to September 2010. The wedding was over, we moved into our new place and life had finally slowed down enough for me to resume the job hunt. I applied to what seemed like 340676 jobs. And no one ever responded to my application/resume.

I finally found a job that seemed absolutely perfect for me. I started in November of 2010 as the Membership and Communications Manager for a non-profit organization here in Fort Worth. I love my job! There are three other women that work in my office. That's it! And I love working for a small company.

Some things that I'm responsible for:
* writing and editing a 4-color, twelve page print newsletter that goes out bimonthly
* writing a biweekly email newsletter
* photography for both print and email newsletters
* company website maintenance
* Staff liaison for six different volunteer led committees
* writing press releases for various events/organization updates
* membership recruitment and retention
* creating and maintaining marketing plans for classes/events

My job is so much fun. There is always something new. And I constantly get to meet fascinating people!

Go link up with Lindsey so I can be nosy and see what you do for a living!!
Happy Monday! :)

You weren't kidding! We basically have the same job! Twinsies. My last company was small and family run and I much prefer that to a big corporation. I'm jealous! Thanks for linking up. I still can't believe that story about them just letting you go. Horse sh*#!

HaHa....you & the hubby have similar A&M stories. I think he changed his major 4 times. He had an extra semester tacked on from all the changes. And then after working one year changed his mind AGAIN and went back to school for another year. Geez! Sounds like you have a pretty fabulous job there friend.

Sounds like a fun job! I also changed my major but only 3 times. I took a victory lap and graduated the same time as you! We are definitely class of '08!
