Hi sweet friends! So sorry that I've been MIA the last couple days. Tuesday evening, my mom called in a panic because my 97-year-old grandmother fell. Before I get into details, I must explain something...
I am extremely close to my grandmother. She's my only living grandparent and I'm the only grandchild that grew up down the street from her. Many of my favorite memories from growing up, involve her. So there was no question that I would be driving to Bryan to be with my mom and grandma. (I've been here since early Wednesday morning)
Originally, they thought she broke her hip. And at her age, a hip break could be fatal. Surgery isn't an option and my grandmother is so susceptible to pneumonia, that being completely immobile could be detrimental to her well being.
Thankfully, her hip is not broken, but her pelvis is fractured in multiple places. But if you have to break your pelvis, her fractures are the best case scenario. Now, it's still a fracture, so of course she's in pain. But our real concern at this point is pneumonia.
This morning was bad. I've never been so scared. She was completely out of it, non responsive and she was running a fever (which is super unusual for her). She wasn't eating and she just looked so feeble and weak. It broke my heart.
At lunch time, a physical therapist and occupational therapist came to see her. They got her to sit up in a chair and she said that felt so much better. She was so much more alert and her fever also broke. She ate a decent lunch too. It was an improvement, but every hour brings something new.
I'm sorry for the wordy, lengthy post. But, if you have a few minutes, would you mind saying a prayer for her?
